Description

The ROG GT-AX6000 is a powerful router with a handful of unique features. This router is great for the gamer that has moved up to multi-gigabit ethernet and is powerful enough to handle large file transfers to a home NAS with multi-gigabit support. While not everyone needs these features, those who do will find this router's performance excellent and the software to be more customizable than just about any of its peers. Plus, if you don't want to get into the weeds with the settings, most people will be plenty happy with the options in the Asus Router app. Update: I installed the AX6000 yesterday. Using the 2.5 gb wan and 2.5 gb lan to desktop. Avg lan to desktop is 900+ down, 22+ up, 4ms latency. Modem is the Arris S33. Wifi upstairs (open house, about 2600 sq ft) 450 down, 20 up.

First Ax89X. Qualcomm IPQ8074 CPU 2.2Ghz: Copy from Router to PC (10GB switch, 10GB Pcie Card on PC, Sfp+ from ax89x to zyxel 10G switch).Via a Gigabit connection, the route proved to be the fastest among its peers by a tiny margin — most routers saturate this connection anyway — with over 110MB/s. When I used the 2.5Gbps wired connection, it was among the average, registering close to 130MB/s. And in a GT-AX6000 vs GT-AXE11000 matchup, the former’s extra 2.5Gbps LAN port proves valuable — possibly more so than the 6GHz band novelty of the latter. The GT-AX6000 is among a shortlist of Wi-Fi 6 routers with two Multi-Gig ports. The router looks bold and cool, possibly the coolest among Asus routers which are generally not good candidates in any beauty contest. The clients I used to test were MacBook Air M2, Pixel 6 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPad Pro M1. I cannot go past the 80Mbps mark 🙁 The table below is regularly updated and includes all the current gaming routers from Asus that I have tested.

There’s no getting around that the ROG AX-6000 is a pricey router, and if you’re willing to give up a few of the features, like the dual multi-gig Ethernet ports, you can get a very good router for less. One of the first routers that comes to mind is the TP-Link Archer GX90. This tri-band Wi-Fi 6 router comes with a single 2.5Gbps Ethernet port but makes up for it by adding another 5GHz band to the mix. With 2.4GHz performance taking a bit of a hit, this will be fine for many people, and the dedicated Wi-Fi band for gaming could be a better fit for mobile-focused gamers. TP-Link’s HomeCare software also isn’t as robust as AiProtection if you’re interested in those software features.

A great little gaming router that delivers great speeds even without Wi-Fi 6E

Asus’s gaming routers can work for general home networking needs. By default, the game-related features are turned off.
